“THE COMPASS OF LAW, THE LAWS OF THE ECONOMY

Portrait by Michel Faure, Journalist & writer

A graduate of the École des Hautes Études Commerciales, of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, Frédéric Bucher holds a Master’s degree in Business Law and Taxation from the University of Paris II Panthéon-Assas. He has always wanted to practice law from the perspective of the economy.

After working for Poitrinal & Associés, Frédéric Bucher decided to work internationally with Freshfields, where he is involved in market transactions. Convinced of the growth of entrepreneurial clients, he left this big firm to become a partner and first lateral partner of STC Partners, the latter becoming the benchmark for “private capital”. He develops there a recognised advisory activity for entrepreneurs, business leaders, family groups, investment funds and other national actors that he supports in their activities. Frédéric Bucher and his team offer their clients technical skills, but also essential listening and ability to anticipate in the current, complex and unpredictable world of business. In 2020, he created Couderc, Dinh & Associés with the historical lawyers of STC Partners.

“A director, founder or entrepreneur does not only expect a response or advice, he says, but also an understanding of his economic or personal problems. Therefore, empathy and hindsight must be exercised while holding the compass of law. The customer, of course, remains at the helm. In our business, we have the chance to meet extraordinary people with talent and intellectual wealth far beyond the simple sense of business. I admire them, these are builders.”

Longtime author of technical articles in legal journals, Frédéric Bucher today focuses on the transmission of knowledge and diversity. From a personal point of view, he is passionate about gardens. “Our profession, he confesses with a smile, is similar to that of the gardener. Nothing is ever granted. And if attention to detail is essential, it is also necessary to look away in order to see the bigger picture.”
